Richard Wayne Leland, 79, of Ackley died on April 23, 2009 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Visitation was held on Monday, April 27 at Parrot & Wood Chapel of Memories. Military rites were conducted by Becker-Chapman Post #138, American Legion and Waterloo Post 1623 Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. Burial was held in Fairview Cemetery in Waterloo.
Richard was born on Nov. 28, 1929 in Waterloo, the son of James and Clara (Howard) Leland. Richard grew up in Waterloo and attended East High. He then went to work at Deere’s before joining the Army. Upon his return from the Army, he worked numerous jobs all over the country, mainly as an electrician. Richard was married to Darlene Lauzon and later divorced. He married Patsy Foley and they also later divorced. He was united in marriage to Kathy Nelsen. Kathy passed away in 2004.
Richard loved traveling, wood working, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kathy; two brothers, James and Bill; two sisters, Marg Sipe and Bernice Grim; and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Miles. He is survived by five children, Sheryl Miles of Omaha, Ark., Graydon (Cathi) Leland of Iowa Falls, Diana Leland of Lakeville, Conn., Peggy Leland of Camas, Wash., and James Leland of Solon; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Darlene Wagner. Richard will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
