Mary “Toots” Felton, 79, of Monticello, died Saturday May 30, 2009 at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, June 2 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rev. Donald Bruggeman officiated at the services.
Surviving are three children, Nanci (John) Null, Scotch Grove; Kevin (Nancy) Felton, Solon; Keith Felton and special friend Diane, St. Paul, Neb.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister Clara McChristy, Dubuque; a brother in law, Paul Marsh, Monticello; two sister-in-laws, Betty Schlimmer and Eleanor Schlimmer, both of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed on June 25, 1999, five brothers and two sisters.
Mary Ione Schlimmer was born April 26, 1930 at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello. She was the daughter of William and Mary Ellen Redmond, Schlimmer. Toots graduated from the Sacred Heart Catholic School with the Class of 1949. She then worked as a waitress at the City Café in Monticello. Mary Schlimmer and Ed Felton were married April 26, 1950 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello. She continued working at the City Café. In 1968 Toots and Ed opened Felton’s Café. They operated the Café until 1975. Toots then went to work at the Senior Home where she was employed until she retired in 1999.
