Marjorie A. “Marge” Oliphant, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died July 1, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Interment took place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Hartzell “Ollie” Oliphant; children, Janice Oliphant of San Antonio, Texas, and Larry Oliphant and wife Debbie of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchildren, Jana, Kari, Nathan, Alex, Jeremy, Delaine and Justin; great-grandchildren, Michael, Christian, Alaina, Noah, Alexa, Kaedyn and Morgan; and two sisters, Ila Johnson and husband Paul of North Liberty, and Marvel Grabau of Cresco.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandchild.
Marjorie Arlene Oliphant was born Dec. 25, 1926 in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of John and Hulda (Hamann) James. She was united in marriage to Hartzell E. Oliphant on April 6, 1946 in Cresco. She was employed for many years at Life Investors and AEGON in retirement investments. She was an officer of ABWA, member of Elks Auxiliary and 50 plus-year member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, where she was involved in Lydia’s Circle and numerous other church activities. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading and above all, time she spent with her family whom she loved dearly.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
