Anne Glenister, 76, passed away on Feb. 17, 2010. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Anne was born in St. Paul, Minn. on March 21, 1933. She was a maverick of her time, earning a B.A. at Cornell College in 1954 and a M.S. in Geology at the University of Iowa in 1957, where she met her life’s love, Brian F. Glenister. She was married on Feb. 16, 1956, and lived in Australia for two years following the marriage, but ultimately returned to Iowa City. She was a loving mother to Alan, Linda, and Kathryn; grandmother to Megan, Alexa, Madison, Rose, and Harry; and sister to Lyn and Harriette.
Anne was a great artist and cartoonist, hand-illustrating the fossils in her thesis and drawing wonderful characters on greeting cards and invitations. She loved growing plants, ultimately starting “Orchids By Glenister” and designing and building a two-story greenhouse as part of the home they built for their family on the Coralville Reservoir. She devoted herself to her kids, her husband, and to supporting the Geology Department at the University. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to share her life.
A celebration of Anne’s life will be held at the Iowa River Power Company Restaurant, 501 1st Ave., Coralville, Iowa at 1 p.m. on March 20. In lieu of flowers, please bring pictures, mementos, and stories of Anne’s life to share.
