SOLON– Solon’s varsity softball squad continued to rack up wins last week.
The Lady Spartans took a double-header against Dyersville Beckman last Tuesday, then hosted the inaugural Solon Softball Classic and emerged with two more wins.
Against Beckman, Solon won the first game, 4-1. Arran Weeces was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts. Alyssa Rickels went 2-4, Casey Musgrave went 2-3 and Rylee Smith went 3-3.
In game two, Solon bested Beckman 12-0. Casey Musgrave was the winning pitcher. Kristen Purdy threw in relief. Emily Bransky was 2-3 with three stolen bases. Kara Misel was 2-3.
Hosting Highland and Springville in the triangular Solon Softball Classic Saturday, the Lady Spartans shut-out both teams and posted 25 runs.
Arran Weeces went 2-3 at the plate and tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts while only issuing two walks against Highland.
Solon broke open a scoreless game in the fourth inning with five runs. Musgrave was 3-4, collecting four RBI, while Misel tripled and had two RBI. Bransky went 3-4, and Alyssa Rickels went 2-3 with two stolen bases.
The Lady Spartans didn’t wait to score against Springville, putting up 14 runs in three innings. Bransky was 2-2 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Smith was 2-3 with a stolen base and Shelby Gunnells had a double, two RBI and a stolen base. Musgrave and Purdy combined on the mound for the win.
Solon moved to 7-0 on the season. The next home game is Wednesday, June 8, versus Marion.
