SOLON– The Solon baseball squad remained undefeated on the season last week, collecting doubleheader wins against Western Dubuque and Maquoketa.
Solon’s offense was quiet Monday, June 13, against Western Dubuque, although the Spartans managed to chalk up two more victories, 2-0 and 4-2.
Solon was limited to four hits in the first game.
Nick Day highlighted Solon’s hitting smacking a solo home run, Shawn Olson added a double. On the mound, Brandon Shulista improved to 5-0 on the season going seven innings allowing only two hits, striking out 11 and walking one in the 2-0 shut-out.
In the second game, Derrick Loveless went 3-4 at the plate with a double, Marshall Koehn added a double and Nick Day hit a triple. On the mound, three Solon pitchers controlled the game. Ryan Butler improved to 3-0, going five innings and allowing only three hits with three strikeouts. Day and Loveless pitched a perfect sixth and seventh inning to complete the 4-2 win.
The bats came alive Thursday hosting Maquoketa.
Day went 2-3 at the plate with a triple and Loveless added a home run in a 7-5 win. On the mound, Koehn went four innings in a no-decision, striking out five. Day picked up the win, going three innings while only allowing one hit to go with one strikeout.
In the nightcap, Day again went 2-3 with a triple and a home run (his ninth of the season). Koehn and Shulista each went 2-3 with a double each. Shawn Olson and Derrick Loveless also collected a double. On the mound, Jordan Siddell improved to 3-0 allowing only three hits in five innings with three strikeouts.
