SOLON– The Solon Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, at the Solon Public Library. Our Johnson County Urban Conservationist Amy Bouska will share her knowledge on rain gardens. Urban landscapes generate runoff with almost every rainfall event. Conservation measures capture and infiltrate storm water and reduce a property’s contribution to water quality degradation, flash stream flows and flooding. Spongy soil is the secret to most rainscaping practices, including the rain garden. When deciding where your rain garden goes, place it so it will intercept and capture runoff water, at least 10 feet from foundations. Plants with deep roots are encouraged to help maintain soil quality and good percolation rates.
