OXFORD– The Johnson County Conservation Board will conduct the 2011 Controlled Deer Hunt (antlerless only) in the F.W. Kent Park Deer Management Zone.
The controlled gun hunt for year 2011 will allow issuance of 60 licenses to 40 hunters for Dec. 3 and 4. Hunters will be allowed to apply for two antlerless licenses. If more than 60 applications are received there will be a drawing
Also, the board will have a special archery hunt, issuing 100 licenses to 30 bow hunters for Oct. 1, 2011, through Jan. 29, 2012. The first three archers who successfully harvest four female deer will be eligible for any-deer license in the 2011 archery season. A total of three any-deer tags will be available. If two or more archers harvest their fourth female deer on the same day, a drawing will be held to determine who receives the any-deer license.
The application and safety/orientation session for bow hunters will be Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. or Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. at the F.W. Kent Park’s Conservation Education Center. License applications will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis. A shooting proficiency test for bow hunters is required. The test will be conducted at Find & Feather in Iowa City before license(s) can be issued.
The application and safety/orientation session for shotgun hunters will be Saturday, Sept. 24, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Doors will open at F.W. Kent Park’s Conservation Education Center at 8 a.m. The required safety/orientation session will immediately follow the application process.
Hunt dates are Dec. 3 and 4 for shotgun hunters. Hunt dates are Oct 1, 2011 to Jan. 29, 2012 for bow hunters. No bow hunting will be allowed during the shotgun season .
Shotgun and bow license fees are $28.50 for first special license and $13 for the second. Fin & Feather of Iowa City will issue electronic license(s).
