Gordon D. Hadenfeldt, 61, of Belle Plaine, passed away at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha on Sept. 15, 2011, after a lingering illness. Graveside memorial services were held Sept. 19, at the Marengo Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Johnson. Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine is serving the family.
Gordon was born May 8, 1950, in Sigourney, Iowa, to Kenneth J. and Olive M. (Allee) Hadenfeldt. Gordon was raised in the Ladora and Marengo area. He attended HLV school and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in Marengo in 1968. He enlisted in the Army in 1969 and served in Stuttgardt, Germany, Seoul, South Korea and Fort Hood, Texas, during the Vietnam conflict as a maintenance and door gunner until 1976. He also worked in data computer work with the military until he moved to Temple, Texas.
He married Glenda McKay in Belton, Texas, and they had three children, Cordy (KrisAnn) Hadenfeldt of Round Rock, Texas, Judi Hadenfeldt of Springbranch, Texas, and Lindsey (Daniel) Falcon of San Antonio, Texas. Later, Gordon married Sally Eichhorn of Belle Plaine and had two sons, Seth and Kaleb, both of Belle Plaine.
Also surviving Gordon are his brother, James Hadenfeldt of Solon; sister, Judy (Wayne) Wood of North Liberty; twin sisters, Sharon Robinson of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Karon Staten of Stillwell, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and great friend, Billy Schwertzfeger of Marengo.
Gordon was a dedicated employee at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for 18 years and was recently employed at the Meskwaki Casino in security. He belonged to the Marengo American Legion Post 76.
Gordon enjoyed life and during his illness, showed bravery and strength to endure the hardships.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He especially loved his children and was so proud of each of them.
