IOWA CITY– The Johnson County Historical Society (JCHS) will host Beyond the Grave 2011 Sunday, Oct. 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the Welsh United Church of Christ Cemetery, 4401 Sharon Center Rd., Iowa City. Come meet some of Johnson County’s former residents at their final resting place with JCHS’ Beyond the Grave Cemetery Tour.
Experience history in a whole new way at the most mysterious time of the year– guides will lead groups through the cemetery, visiting notable and noteworthy people of Johnson County’s history, where they will tell stories of lives past. Interesting personalities from about the town will entertain and educate visitors about those who have helped shape our community.
The Johnson County Historical Society is working with University of Iowa students enrolled in the Introduction to Museums course through this project. As a part of their coursework, students are required to complete a 20 hour service learning component. Students are gaining experience in interpretive writing, program development, program evaluation and marketing.
The congregation of the Welsh United Church of Christ will be hosting a soup supper for donations beginning at 5 p.m.
