TIFFIN– Brian Bronzynski’s Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity volleyball squad improved to 17-7-0 on the season and posted its fourth consecutive win Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory over the Mustangs of Independence.
“We were able to get off to a fast start because of our blocking and hitting against a pretty young Mustang team” Coach Bronzynski said. “That set the tone for the whole match.”
In the first game, CCA quickly built a 12-4 lead on a Tara Walls kill. The Clippers cruised to the 25-12 win, their lead never threatened.
Game two opened as a back-and-forth battle but the early lead was established by the Clippers. A kill by Amy Kalkhoff put the score to 11-5 for CCA. Kalkhoff picked up an ace serve to make the score 15-11, and Grace Chabal knocked the ball over the net for a 16-11 lead. The Mustangs called for a time-out with the score 17-11, then put up four unanswered points when play resumed. The Clippers answered with four in a row including a kill by Laura Neuzil and a block by Maliah Fligg for a 21-15 lead. Hanna Stokes launched a kill for game point and CCA had the 2-0 advantage with the 25-17 score.
Kalkhoff opened game three with a kill and the Clippers again built up a comfortable lead. A 25-14 final sealed the night and the victory for the Clippers, who then turned their sights to a Thursday meeting with Waterloo Columbus to finish the regular season.
