TIFFIN— Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys basketball coach Steve Ottoson is a man of few words. But the words he put on his 2011-2012 pre-season survey speak volumes to the season ahead.
The Clippers are likely in for a lot of OJT: On the Job Training.
Two seniors, Clay Miller and Nash Stopko are back with six-foot Miller at point guard and Stopko a 6 foot 2 inch forward. Last season, Miller put up an average of 17 points per game with five assists. Stopko averaged five points and nearly six rebounds. Seniors Dillon Villhauer and Tyler Schulte are also back with Villhauer a 5 foot 10 inch guard, and Schulte a 6 foot 3 inch forward. But, that’s where the experience drops off.
“There’s not a lot of experience outside of Miller and Stopko,” the coach said.
Three juniors: Justin Keith, Tony Pederson and Kam Kahler will be called upon with senior Josh Berner to fill-out the Clipper bench. Keith is a 6 foot 3 inch forward as are Pederson and Kahler. Berner will be a 6 foot 2 inch wing.
Ottoson sees having an athletic team that can run the floor as the squad’s strength going into the new season, along with a seasoned point guard. Ottoson will be assisted by Mike Potter, Joe Graf and Josh Hogue.
The Clippers started Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Mid-Prairie Jamboree in Wellman, and will make their home debut on Friday, Dec. 9, against Benton Community.
