SHUEYVILLE– The 121st annual Shueyville High School alumni banquet was held Friday, April 27, at the Shueyville United Methodist Church. Dinner was served at 5:30 p.m. by the Shueyville United Methodist Women.
The 60-year class of 1952 attended. Members of the class are: Marilyn Benesh Ziscovsky, Fern Kaplan Fackler, Gae Leuttijohn Castek, Howard Novotny, Kenneth Matyk, Donna Jean Slezak Palvis, Evelyn Wolf Vileta, and Roman Zach. All were present except Kenneth Matyk. His wife had a mini stroke the week before and he could not attend. Kenneth lives in Colorado.
The oldest graduate attending was Dick Louvar, class of 1935, who is 95 years old. The next oldest attending were Inez Hartley and Bernice Dvorak who graduated in 1939.
The glassed-in shelves being built in the community center are getting closer to reality; they need $1,275.39 to complete the price of the shelves. They are to house Shueyville High School memorabilia. The Community Center is the remodeled old school building.
Next year’s officers are president, Pauline Novotny; vice president, Marvin Pospsil; treasurer, Marvin Prachar; secretary, Kathryn Birky.
Next year’s banquet will be held on April 12, 2013.
The evening’s entertainment was Darlene Suchmoll and John Castek playing their accordions. Their last song was the Shueyville Fight Song, which was sung by all.
The evening ended with the drawing of the door prizes.
