Road construction work will require closing the loops from southbound Interstate 380 to eastbound I-80 and westbound I-80 to southbound U.S. 218 from 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 15,until mid-July, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's Cedar Rapids construction office.
In addition, the loops from eastbound I-80 to northbound I-380 and northbound U.S.218 to westbound I-80 will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, until mid-July. During the closures, traffic will be detoured as listed below.
• Traffic on southbound I-380 will be detoured onto westbound I-80 then on westbound I-80 then through exit 237 (Tiffin) to get to eastbound I-80.
• Traffic on westbound I-80 will be detoured to exit 237 (Tiffin) then eastbound on I-80 to get onto southbound U.S.218 at exit 239A.
• Traffic on eastbound I-80 will be detoured at exit 239A onto southbound U.S.218 and Melrose Avenue to get to northbound I-380.
• Traffic on northbound U.S.218 will be detoured to exit 4 (North Liberty) then onto southbound I-380 then onto westbound I-80.
Please follow the marked detours when these loops are closed.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
