Thanks to Coke drinkers who drop off their MCR points, a new magazine subscription, “Bloomberg Businessweek” is the newest addition to the magazine shelves. This weekly magazine promises to deliver the business information you need: surprising and timely perspectives on the most important issues of today and unique stories you won’t find anywhere else. As with all magazine subscriptions, the current issue stays in-library, but past issues can be checked out.
Audio book additions
James Lee Burke fans will welcome the Dave Robicheau novel, “Creole Belle,” to the audio book selections. Orson Scott Card’s “Earth Unaware (Formic Wars)” is also new on the shelf as well as two Deborah E. Harkness books in the All Souls Trilogy, “Shadow of Night” and “A Discovery of Witches.”

Thanks to Bridge Community Bank, the Friends of the Solon Library, and Old Creamery Theater for their help in sponsoring the Adult Summer Reading Program.
This reading program for adults continues throughout the year, sponsored by the Friends of the Solon Library. Each month, August through May, one winner is drawn for a $10 cash prize.
Get it at the library
Have you heard about a good book but can’t find it in the catalog at the SPL? Don’t stop there; talk to a library staff member. The book may already be on order, or you can suggest that staff order it. It also might be available as a free downloadable audio book or e-book from the NEIBORS site and the staff can assist you with that process. There are portable audio players that can be checked out. The staff can also request it for you from another Iowa library for a $1.25 fee, which helps cover the cost of postage.
Visit the state fair window
Toni Russo’s latest display window, “State Fair,” depicts an old-fashioned event. Two lucky winners could be attending the real thing as a result of the drawing at noon today for two adult tickets for admission to the 2012 Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. Sponsored by Friends of the Solon Library, anyone checking out an item between Aug. 3 through 7 were entered into a drawing for the tickets.
Russo’s latest window creation is dedicated to the 4-H organization . Full of sights, sounds and tastes of a traditional state fair, the window also features trophies, ribbons and the butter cow. This latest display will be around through mid-September.
