ATKINS– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Madelaine Hinsley was the third-fastest girl to cover the 4k distance Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Benton Invitational. Cross-country runners from thirteen schools gathered near the former Milwaukee Road railroad roundhouse site to run on what once was the Route of the Hiawatha’s, the long-abandoned railroad’s premiere cross-country passenger trains.
Solon took the team title with 49 points and a total time of 79:53. Williamsburg, Mount Vernon-Lisbon, North Linn, Vinton-Shellsburg, CCA, Columbus Community, Benton Community, Independence, Waterloo Columbus Catholic and Gladbrook-Reinbeck rounded out the field. Alburnett and Meskwaki fielded incomplete teams. The Clippers finished sixth overall with 150 points and a total time of 86:49.
