MARION– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers took a step backward Friday night, dropping to a 4-4 record in week eight of the nine-week regular football season. The drop came as the Marion Indians won 27-0 at Thomas Park in Marion.
The Indians scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter, twice in the second with a 24-yard run and a 15-yard run, and again in the third with a 10-yard pass.
Marion ran a ground war against the Clippers, racking up 401 yards of rushing to CCA’s 76, while the Clippers took to the air with 20 passes attempted to Marion’s 11. Overall, the Indians made 74 offensive plays to CCA’s 45, and put up 462 yards of offense to 109.
Jon Nzombo was the leading rusher with 37 yards on a dozen carries. Tanner Bandy had one carry for 5 yards, Konrad Moore kept the ball 11 times for 31 and Zach Anderson had one carry for 3 yards.
Moore completed eight of 20 passes for 65 yards with the longest good for 17. Andrew Beckler took three passes for 40 yards, Anderson took two for 14, Nzombo caught two for 8 and Bandy grabbed one for 3.
Defensively Miguel Mosaquites had five un-assisted tackles and a dozen assisted for 17 total. Aaron Campbell made four and 11, Jake Swenka had six and seven, Bandy made five and five and Bryan Marmolejo made three and six. Tony Pederson had five and four for nine total tackles while Aaron Akers, Stephen Jensen, Terran Wagner, Jared Ganschow, Nzombo, Josh Martinac, Beau Gerard and Zach Smith contributed to the Clippers’ attempts to foil the Indians.
The regular season ends Friday, Oct. 19, on the road against Maquoketa. The Cardinals fell to Solon 27-17. Elsewhere in 3A District 6, DeWitt Central pounded Anamosa 44-6 and South Tama blasted Benton Community 49-13.
