WATERLOO– Solon’s Lady Spartans fell to sixth-ranked Waterloo Columbus, 2-1, last Tuesday in Waterloo.
Alison McKinnie gave Solon an early lead with a goal on an assist from Abby Haas, but Columbus scored twice before the half and the second half went scoreless.
“Despite the abysmal conditions, we felt really good about our play,” said head coach John Tucker. “We controlled the ball very well and our defense did an amazing job holding their offense to just a few shots.”
Katie Silberstein was credited with five saves, and came out to smother plays before shots could be taken, Tucker said.
“All in all, it was a good test for us to get a sense of where we are, and where we need to be as we work towards post season play,” he said.
The girls traveled to Manchester for a match with West Delaware Monday night (April 15), then will host Anamosa Friday, April 19, and Western Dubuque Tuesday, April 23.
