SOLON– The Spartans took on two powerhouses in one day and came out without a loss last week.
The boys’ soccer squad defeated West Liberty 3-1 at West Liberty Saturday and then traveled to Davenport Assumption later that day for a scoreless tie.
Tim Lance scored twice for the Spartans and Nick Brown added a goal on a penalty kick against the Comets. Brandan Childs was credited with an assist. Joe Weeks had four saves in the goal.
Weeks had five saves in the 0-0 battle against Assumption.
The two games capped a successful week for the Solon boys.
At Maquoketa on Tuesday, April 30, the Spartans knocked off the Cardinals, 3-2, in an offensive shoot-out. Ben Hoy scored two goals and had an assist on a goal by Childs. Andrew West also had an assist, and Weeks had six saves.
Thursday, hosting Central DeWitt, Childs, Colton Dall and Rory Siddell found the back of the net in a 3-0 shut-out. Chase Gross had assists on two of the scores while Nick Brown had the assist on the other. Weeks had seven saves in goal.
Solon moved to 10-2-2 on the year, with games coming up against Vinton-Shellsburg (May 7) and at Williamsburg (May 14).
