Daniel Joseph Schaapveld, 59, of North Liberty, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his home in North Liberty after losing his battle with leukemia. Funeral services for Dan were Sunday, July, 21, 2013, at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree with Pastor Alicia Williams officiating. Burial was in Letts Cemetery.

Daniel Joseph Scaapveld was born on July 8, 1954, in Iowa City, the son of Harold and Wilma (Maher) Schaapveld. On Nov. 16, 1974, Daniel was united in marriage to Karen Bailey in Letts. Dan was a probation officer for the Sixth Judicial District, Department of Correctional Services. He was a member of the Catholic faith and he was active in the Methodist Community. Dan enjoyed mowing, yard work, being outdoors, watching sports, especially Iowa Hawkeye football.
Dan will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Karen, of North Liberty; two children, Gabriel (Elizabeth) Schaapveld, of Cedar Rapids, Stephanie Schaapveld of West Des Moines; four brothers, Gary (Helen) Schaapveld of North Liberty, Les (Joyce) Schaapveld of Lone Tree, Warren (Ann) Schaapveld of Iowa City, Lonny (Nancy) Schaapveld of West Liberty, as well as many other family members and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ed Nelson, nephew Sam Langstaff and his wife Jackie.
