SOLON– Six Lady Spartans have been named to the 2013 Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State & All-District softball teams.
Junior Mallory Madsen, senior Kara Misel and sophomore Taylor Nearad were named to the Class 4A first team. Madsen finished the season with a .512 batting average with 88 hits and 22 doubles. She struck out only three times, according to information listed with quikstatsiowa.com. Misel hit .436 with 68 hits (including 26 doubles) and 54 RBI. Nearad boasted a .491 average, with 80 hits. She had 27 doubles, four triples and two home runs.
Sophomore Emily Ira was named to the 4A second team. Ira compiled a 19-2 record on the mound with an ERA of 0.98, limiting opposing batters to an average of .152. She struck out 130 and walked only 14.
Junior Holly Hinkel and senior Alyssa Rickels to the 4A third team.
Hinkel went 16-0 pitching for the Lady Spartans with a 1.24 ERA and 74 strikeouts. Rickels had 60 hits on the year, batting .420 with four doubles and 26 RBI.
Madsen, Misel and Nearad were also named to the All-District 4A Northeast team.
