Charlotte Olga Pavelka Meroshek 94, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon. Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church by the Rev. John Flaherty. Charlotte will be buried at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, rural Solon.
Surviving Charlotte are two daughters: Janet (Darwin) Wikert of Hampton and Pauline (Stephen) Erickson of Spring Park, Minn.; grandchildren: Scott (Wendy) Wikert, Jerrod (Brandi) Wikert, Laurie (Shane) Jacobson, Stephen II (Jennifer) Erickson, Alex Erickson (Nicole Christensen); great grandchildren: Paige and Dillon Jacobson, Jayde and Dawson Wikert; and special nieces and nephews.
Preceding Charlotte in death were her parents, husband Bill who passed away December 1998.
Charlotte was born Aug. 26, 1919, to Joseph and Anna Zinkula Pavelka on the Zinkula/Pavelka heritage family farm in rural Solon. She attended grade school at Pleasant Hill country school, rural Linn County and Mount Mercy School in Cedar Rapids, and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1937. She married William “Bill” Meroshek at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Solon, in 1942. The couple farmed all their lives.
She was a devoted and active member of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Solon, and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon.
Charlotte was a wonderful cook and very devoted to her husband and daughters and grandchildren.
A memorial fund in Charlotte’s honor has been established.
