SOLON– The Optimist Club of Solon is encouraging area students to contemplate the phrase “How Dreams Lead to Success” as part of the Optimist International essay contest for 2014.
The Optimist Club will judge the local students’ essays, based on the theme and determine the top winners. Top three place winners at the local level will receive medallions and the winning essay will be sent to the district level where college scholarships up to $2,500 are available for top winners.
“Young students today have so many fresh ideas about the world and their future,” club president Chris Mottinger said. “As Optimists, it is our goal to encourage them and do what we can to bring out the best in each of them. This gives them a wonderful opportunity to tap into their creativity and pursue possible scholarships at the same time.”
The contest is for anyone 18 or younger that does not have a GED or diploma. Essays must contain between 700 and 800 words and the deadline for entries is Feb. 14. Entries are to be turned in to Ivy Nielson at Solon High School.
Students wishing to participate in the essay contest can find more about the contest by contacting Ivy Nielson at Solon High School at 319-624-3401, ext. 1138.
