Flood Relief Food Drive to benefit NL Pantry

NORTH LIBERTY– Food will be collected in receptacles at each door at the Wal-mart Supercenter in Coralville beginning Mon. June 23, to benefit the North Liberty Community Food & Clothing Pantry and the Iowa City Crisis Center,
On Sat., June 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers from the Pantry and the Crisis Center will be on hand for a drive-through food drive in the parking lot of Wal-mart.

Boating re-opened on Coralville Lake, Lake Macbride

DES MOINES– Recreational boating has been re-opened on Coralville Reservoir and Lake Macbride in Johnson County, according to a release issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The only launch ramp at Mehaffey Bridge on Coralville was closed due to debris on Monday, but expected to be re-opened by Tuesday.

Local scrapbooking company to donate profits to flood relief

NORTH LIBERTY- Reminisce, a manufacturing company of scrapbook and paper crafting supplies sold nationwide, will produce a custom sheet of stickers and coordinating scrapbook paper to observe the Iowa Floods of 2008. The paper and sticker sheet will be available on the Reminisce website at www.designsbyreminisce.com and through participating scrapbook retail stores. All proceeds from the sales of the Flood of 2008 products will go to the American Red Cross. The Reminisce family was personally affected by the floods, as its flagship retail store located in Coralville was completely flooded under 4 feet of water.

Oxford Methodist ice cream social this Saturday

OXFORD– The Oxford United Methodist Church Ice cream social will be held Saturday, June 28, from 4 -7:30 p.m. at 202 E. Main St., Oxford.
The menu includes ice cream, sloppy joes, turkey salad sandwiches, pie, cake, coffee, and a beverage for a good will donation.
A benefit garage sale for Melody Morrissey will be held the same day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 226 Augusta Ave., Oxford. Items donated for the garage sale can be dropped off by June 27. Contact Sue Ann Shuler at 828-4774 for more information.

Fire damages NL multi-family unit

NORTH LIBERTY- The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire at approximately 9:32 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008, at 1245 Alexander Way, Unit #204 in North Liberty.
First arriving fire crews found a three-story, 12-unit multifamily dwelling with smoke and fire showing from the exterior deck and wall of unit #204. The fire was brought under control within 5 minutes and extinguished within 10 minutes from time of arrival. Fire crews performed ventilation, evacuation and salvage/overhaul. The fire damage was contained to the exterior of the structure.
The building was occupied at the time of the fire.
Fire crews remained on scene to approximately 11:05 p.m. Property damage dollar loss is estimated around $2,000. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries. Cause of the fire is has been determined to be accidental due to discarded smoking materials.
The North Liberty Fire Department was assisted by the Coralville and North Liberty police departments.
