Historic Dillon’s Furrow marked in Solon

SOLON– History was marked in Solon on Sunday, Nov. 25, when a plaque was set next to Highway 1 on Main Street. The marker recognizes a point in time along the line that 173 years ago was known as the new military road from Iowa City to Dubuque.
It was built for $20,000 and, after surveying, was plowed by Lyman Dillon, of Cascade. Dillon, 39 years old and born in Utica, N.Y., was single and the owner of a saw mill.

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty’s comprehensive plan for developing its city parks has been in place since 2009, but increasing demand for organized recreation has kicked it into high gear.

Warriors edge out Women of Troy

IOWA CITY– Maybe if they’d just had a few more minutes to play.
Time was not on the Women of Troy’s side Friday night as both the sophomore and varsity squads came up short despite fourth-quarter rallies. The sophomores trailed most of the game, put up a fierce fight in the fourth, and fell, 39-34. Jessie Harder led the sophs with an 18-point effort.

Clipper boys fall to Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the WaMaC Tuesday night after the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings came to town, sacking and looting for an 83-57 win.
A Tony Pederson 3-pointer gave CCA a 10-9 lead in the first period, the only Clipper lead of the night. The Vikings took the quarter 17-10 and never looked back as the Clippers struggled to maintain possession of the ball.
A salvo of 3-pointers by Mitch Stopko, Konrad Moore and Kam Kahler in the second period helped the Clipper cause, but the home team still lagged behind 38-21 at the half.
