Liberty falls to undefeated North Linn, 85-52

Bolts mauled by Lynx

TROY MILLS– Liberty High’s varsity boys basketball team suffered its third consecutive loss Tuesday, Jan. 16, as it fell 85-52 to the undefeated Lynx of North Linn in Troy Mills. Despite the final score, the Lynx faced a challenge from the “Bolts,” who even with a 33-point deficit gave North Linn their second-closest game of the season. The Lynx held off Monticello by 28 points earlier the season, their tightest game, thus far.

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity girls had a rollercoaster week as they cruised past Benton Community 56-23 on Tuesday, Jan. 16, on the road and returned home to face the No. 5 team in Class 4A, the Stormin’ Pointers of Center Point-Urbana (CPU) on Friday, Jan. 19. The Pointers bit the Clippers, 55-31, dipping the Creek Girls’ record to 8-6 overall.

CENTER POINT– Coach Brandon Clubb and his Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity Clippers earned a hard-fought win Friday, Jan. 19, on the road as they upset the Stormin’ Pointers of Center Point-Urbana (CPU) 52-50 in the Pointers’ kennel in Center Point. The win followed a Tuesday, Jan. 16, home win over Benton Community and boosted the Creek Boys to a 4-9 showing while dipping the Pointers to 7-7.

CASCADE– Liberty High’s varsity girls basketball team hit a rough patch in its inaugural season, going winless since the start of 2018 after a four-game winning streak to close out 2017.
The Lightning fell Tuesday, Jan. 16, on the road in Dubuque at Wahlert Catholic High School with the Golden Eagles flying high on a 60-38 win. Wahlert improved to 4-10, matching the “Bolts.”

Creek Boys get third win upsetting Benton Bobcats

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys earned their third win of the 2017-18 season in a hard-fought upset against Benton Community Tuesday, Jan. 16, at home. The win improved the Creek Boys’ record to 3-9, while the Bobcats took a dip to 7-6.

Johnson County planners touch up language in the proposed comprehensive plan

IOWA CITY– Johnson County’s first ever, and at times controversial, comprehensive plan is in its final phase of development, and should be in final draft form at the end of the month.
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors held a work session on Thursday, Jan. 18, at the County Administrative Building in Iowa City where board members discussed changes to the current draft plan with Planning, Development and Sustainability (PDS) staff.

The cities of North Liberty, Solon and Ely found a way to capitalize on Iowa’s traditionally cold winters and are offering free outdoor ice skating in designated areas.
Ever since Mike Reeves, the Solon Parks and Rec activities director, can remember, that’s the way it’s been in Solon.

OXFORD– The Spelling Bee was held Jan. 16 6:30 p.m. at the Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford. Participants were from the Mid-Prairie and CCA School Districts.

NL Commissions volunteer seat open

NORTH LIBERTY– Three of the City of North Liberty’s appointed boards have openings, and volunteers are needed to help lead and advise on those commissions. Applications are due Feb. 16, 2018.

CCA 2018-2019 academic calendar

Classes start Aug. 23 and end June 3

OXFORD– The School Board of Directors for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District approved the 2018-19 academic year calendar Wednesday, Jan. 17, during its regular monthly meeting at Clear Creek Elementary, in Oxford. The calendar was reviewed and a public hearing held in December. Nobody from the public appeared at either the December or January meetings to discuss the calendar.
