SOLON– The Solon school board is expected to finalize a Sept. 9 date for a $25.5 million bond issue referendum later this month.

It’s a big step for the district, which has been discussing potential facility needs for months.

Steve Duncan appointed to City Council

Council considers utility franchise for Alliant Energy

SOLON– The Solon City Council appointed Steve Duncan to fill the vacant council seat created when Steve Stange was appointed mayor.
“We’ve had a vacancy (on the council),” began Stange. “One of my goals was to try and find somebody that was kind of keeping up on what’s going on in the city, and has been active in our council meetings. I was looking for somebody that was in an area that is under development.”
“I approached Steve Duncan who ran for school board in the past,” said Stange.

Flashback to 1980

Hawk Talk

Hayden Fry was in his second year as head football coach, Lute Olsen had coached the basketball team for seven seasons and Dan Gable was leading the Hawk wrestlers to their third straight national championship in 1980.
Ronald Reagan defeated Jimmy Carter to become the 40th president of the United States and Mount St. Helens erupted in Montana, with ash falling like snow on Montana towns.
Home computers were in their infancy, but there were people that predicted in the year 2000, nearly every home would have a computer.

The year of the Amazon

Food For Thought

According to my television screen, current politics has been usurped by a pair of Amazons – those fierce female warriors of ancient myth. One claims to have grown up on a farm “cutting hogs” as she puts it, and threatens to “make ‘em squeal” - scary! The other represents herself as a soldier and boasts that she packs a gun in her purse, actually giving us a glimpse of herself at target practice to drive home the point. (She fires a total of five rounds and we are shown her target sporting about a dozen holes.

However, the numbers weren’t all bad. According to Henry, the team set the school record last year for team batting average (.285) and on base percentage (OBP, .377) since moving up to Class 3A. Also, the Clippers had the fewest offensive strikeouts in the WaMaC West.
