Janice Nienhaus

Janice Marie Nienhaus, 71, of Tipton, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012. Funeral services were held Dec. 31 at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with the Rev. Ron Lashmit officiating. Burial was in Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
Janice was born March 23, 1941, in New Hampton, the daughter of Orville and Alene Fern Morris Carter. She attended Hampton High School. On Oct. 29, 1982, Janice was united in marriage to Garvin Alphonse Nienhaus in Mason City.
Janice was a homemaker and had been employed as a painter for Winnebago Industries.

Shirley McGrew

Shirley J. McGrew, 85, longtime resident of the Coralville area, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Funeral services were held Jan. 5 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery, Coralville.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web at www.gayandciha.com.

Paul Main

Paul Leroy Main, 95, of Coggon, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Manor Care, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services were held Jan. 4 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church in rural Ryan. Burial was in Coggon Cemetery, Coggon, with military honors.
Local survivors include his daughter, Paula Main of North Liberty.

Genevieve Kromminga

Genevieve Ruth Kromminga, 85, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. A memorial service was held Jan. 3 at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, with the Rev. Andrew Wright officiating. Private committal services were held at Keystone Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.
Genevieve was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Dysart to John and Rose (Stahr) Konicek. On Dec. 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edmund “Eddie” Kromminga at the St. John Lutheran Parsonage in Keystone. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2009.

Arlene Baumgartner

Arlene Baumgartner, 84, of Waterloo, formerly a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, died at Rosewood Estate of Friendship Village in Waterloo on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012.
She was born May 11, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Charles Ernest and Bertha Marie (Odlund) Coleman. Arlene married Elwyn LuRay Baumgartner on Oct. 26, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. He died Feb. 28, 1992. She graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. Arlene worked as a seamstress for Stegman Draperies for many years until her retirement.

Early voting now available for Feb. 5 Iowa City School District special election

IOWA CITY– Ballots for the Feb. 5 Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) special election are now available for early voting. All voters in the ICCSD will be eligible to vote on the following issue (50 percent required):
“Summary: To adopt the revenue purpose statement to replace the current Revenue Purpose Statements and authorize the expenditure of revenues from the State of Iowa secure an advanced vision for education fund received by the Iowa City Community School District.”

‘Black Gowns and Bowties’ benefit at CCA Jan. 26

TIFFIN– On Saturday, Jan. 26, Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) fine arts boosters, F.A.M.E., will sponsor a benefit concert and silent auction event. “Black Gowns and Bowties” will take place in the CCA High School Performing Arts Center. Proceeds will be used to purchase concert attire for the high school band and choir.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. in the commons area with a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and piano music by Lynn Conway and friends.
