Sheriff's Office files charges in burglary cases

IOWA CITY– The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges on individuals believed to be involved in some residential burglaries in Northern Johnson County. Areas included North Liberty, Solon and the rural areas around those cities. The Sheriff’s Office worked this investigation with the North Liberty Police Department. The residences affected were located off of the following streets or roads: Sugar Bottom Road, Spring Breeze Ct., Pine Ridge NE, Willow Ct. and Maple Circle and some addresses in North Liberty.

NORTH LIBERTY– For Arlene Kaczinski, what started out as boxful of good intentions turned into a truckload of them.
In February, Arlene watched a production of ABC’s “20/20” television program, when Diane Sawyer gave the world an inside look into one of the nation’s poorest regions, deep in the mountains of Appalachia.
“It showed the terrible poverty of these people,” said Arlene. “One month later, I was surfing the web and saw more about it. It mentioned the Homecoming Church in Inez, Ky.”


From the firehouse to your house

NORTH LIBERTY — Firefighters are known for many things: bravery, strength, heroism, and cooking. Yes, cooking. While volunteer firefighters aren’t cooking meals at the station with the frequency of their career brothers and sisters, they still tend to know their way around the kitchen.


CCA facilities update highlighted by the routine

OXFORD — In an impromptu report, Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Facilities Director Ray Willoughby described progress on the district’s various projects June 17 during the regular monthly meeting of the school board.
“The weather has everything fouled up…as usual,” Willoughby joked in reference to recent rainfall affecting work on the athletic complex and new auditorium in Tiffin. Willoughby described the recently dug and concrete lined orchestra pit as a swimming pool.
