Adult yoga classes to be offered this winter in Solon

SOLON– The Solon Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for an adult yoga class this winter. A five-week introductory course will be offered twice a week in December and January. Yoga is a great way to improve your overall health and helps an individual stay fit during the cold winter months. Yoga classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. For more information visit the parks and recreation page on the City of Solon website at www.solon-iowa.com, or pick up a registration form at the Solon city office at 223 S. Iowa St.

Stop and see the trees

Over 20 beautifully decorated Christmas trees are in place in the reading area at the west end of the library. Entries have been received from individuals, families, clubs and businesses. The trees will be judged for prizes and then sold to the highest bidder in a silent auction.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well at the Humanity Award. The newly formed tree judging committee will take the place of the public vote from previous years. Trees will be judged for placement by the tree committee. The community will vote for the Humanity Award.


Tags for giving

There is a display located in the library lobby with tags designated for toys desired for the Salvation Army toy drive. To participate, select a tag for the gender and age of the person of your choice and shop for that item. Return the new, unwrapped item to the box in the lobby by Dec. 10 for pick-up by the Salvation Army. Or, deliver it, in person, to the Salvation Army office in Coralville by Dec. 14.


New display window

A new holiday display window will be appearing on Dec. 2. Toni Russo is transporting all of us to “Candy Land” based on the famous board game. Be sure to check it out.


Santa Party this Saturday

The library is beginning a new tradition with Santa this year. In previous years, Santa has made an evening appearance at the library. This year, Santa will be visiting the library on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 until 11 a.m. Bring the kids or grandkids and your cameras for some candid shots as your child has a little one-on-one visit with Santa. There will be a craft to do in the meeting room and Santa will have a treat for all his visitors. Parents and grandparents can pick up their poinsettia orders and do a little shopping at the Friends sale in the meeting room at the same time.


Holiday sale this weekend

Friends of the Solon Library will be hosting the annual Holiday Sale on Friday, Dec. 2, from 2:30 until 6 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. until noon. Items offered will be the preordered jar mixes, with a few extra for cash and carry. The old favorites will be featured in this year’s jar mixes, including mocha coffee, three soups, three bar mixes and a new peanut butter chocolate chip loaf. Poinsettias that were preordered will be available for pickup as well as a few cash and carries for late shoppers. Joyce’s Greenhouse in North Liberty is supplying the poinsettias this year.


SEDG urges residents to treasure Solon businesses, shop locally

SOLON– The Solon Economic Development Group (SEDG) is again encouraging local shopping with another “Treasure your Solon Businesses” campaign.
Pick up a card at participating Solon retailers, make six purchases at any of the listed businesses and return it for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate.
The six-week, shop-local campaign promotion features 10 Solon businesses: D and D Pizza and Cafe, Dairy Queen, E’s Florals, Fitzpatrick Family Chiropractic, Jo’s Roadhouse, Le Grove Boutique, Pet Memories, Sam’s Main Street Market, Savvy Coffee and Wine Bar, Solon Drug and Solon Hardware.
