West Trojans continue on a perfect roll

IOWA CITY– The West High Trojans celebrated Homecoming and Senior Night with a 71-14 vanquishing of the Cedar Rapids Jefferson J-Hawks. The win handed the Trojans the Mississippi Division Title and kept the team a perfect 8-0 (overall) and 5-0 (MVC) in the eighth week of the regular season.


Free veterans dinner to be Nov. 13

NORTH LIBERTY– A free Veterans Day dinner will be offered to any veteran and one guest, compliments of the North Liberty Legion Ladies Auxiliary, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the South Slope Community Center in order to allow veterans to attend the Nov. 11 USO celebration program at Riverside. The menu features roast pork loin, real mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, salad, dessert and beverages. CCA will host annual financial aid night Thursday, Nov. 8

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School will host its annual financial aid night on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the high school commons beginning promptly at 7 p.m. A guest presenter from the Iowa College Access Network will discuss the FAFSA, Federal Student Loan programs, and scholarship searches.
High school counselor Mark Hovey will discuss local scholarships and deadlines. This is a very important meeting for junior and senior parents to attend, but is open to anyone wishing to learn more about funding their child’s education.


Swisher Auxiliary to host turkey supper Saturday, Nov. 3 at Legion

SWISHER– The Swisher Auxiliary will host a Homemade Turkey Supper Saturday, Nov. 3, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Swisher American Legion.
The public is invited. The cost of $9 for adults, and $5 for children ages 6-12. Children age 5 and under eat free.
Proceeds will be donated to English Rivers Outfitters to help veterans.
Turkey Bingo by Swisher Junior Auxiliary will run from 4:30-7:30 p.m


Stone Soup supper for pantry Oct. 28

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Pantry will hold its fourth annual Stone Supper on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the South Slope Community Room in North Liberty.
All community members are invited. Cost is $10 for adults (13 and up) and $5 for children (12 and under). Dinner includes soup, salad, bread, dessert and drink. A silent auction will be held from 5 until 6:45 p.m. The North Liberty Community Pantry was founded on the belief that we are neighbors helping neighbors.
Please help your neighbors and support the Stone Soup Supper.


CCA annual senior supper Oct. 27

TIFFIN– On Saturday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m. the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Student Assistance Team/Interact club will host its annual senior supper (and no, it’s not for 12th graders).
Any district patron over the age of 55 is welcome to come eat a ham or turkey supper provided by students. Tours of the school and card games will be held after the meal. Please call the high school at 319-545-5623 by Oct. 20 if you wish to attend.


Author Terry Fisk brings spooky tales to North Liberty library this Friday

NORTH LIBERTY– Come for a spook-tacular evening with author Terry Fisk at the North Liberty Community Library on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m.
Fisk co-authored “Iowa Road Guide to Haunted Locations,” and is dying to meet and entertain audiences with some of his creepy tales. Learn about Iowa’s most haunted locations and legendary ghosts. Attendance is free.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the North Liberty Community Library

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin’s Facebook page has been hijacked.
What started in July 2011 as a convenient way for the city to post information and a public forum for citizen feedback has turned into a bit of a mess for the city’s current administration, according to city administrator Michon Jackson.
That’s because the posts that appear to be originating from the city offices are instead being posted by an anonymous source, they aren’t from the city and they aren’t exactly strictly informative.


“Under a Cider Moon” fundraiser to be Oct. 19

JOHNSON COUNTY– Join the fun and celebration at the Johnson County Heritage Trust’s (JCHT) annual fundraiser, “Under a Cider Moon … A Celebration of Autumn,” on Friday, Oct. 19, at Schwab’s Celebration Barn, 245th St., NE (off Sugar Bottom Road), Solon.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and a drawing for a diamond pendant, valued at $500, will be held at 6 p.m. (Must be present to win). The live auction begins promptly at 7 p.m.


The water’s fine in Shueyville

SHUEYVILLE– A pair of underground storage tanks in this small Northwest Johnson County community should bring comfort to residents and firefighters alike.
The two tanks will hold 28,000 gallons of water for fire protection in a town without fire hydrants due to the lack of a municipal water system.
