CCA’s Murphy, Jensen 4th in district meet

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School hosted the Class 2A District 4 wrestling meet Saturday, Feb. 13, which was won by Mediapolis. Washington, Williamsburg, Union-LaPorte City, Center Point-Urbana, Vinton-Shellsburg, Columbus Community, West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville, Benton Community, Fairfield and the host Clippers rounded out the field of competitors battling for the right to advance to the State Individual Meet in Des Moines.

West bowling splits with the Rams of Dubuque Senior

IOWA CITY– The West High Trojans and Women of Troy split with the Rams of Dubuque Senior in the final bowling match of the regular season Friday, Feb. 12, at Colonial Lanes in Iowa City. The West varsity and junior varsity (JV) girls were victorious, with the varsity winning 2,505 to 2,352 and the JV winning 1,838 to 1,748, while the varsity and JV boys fell 2,940 to 2,759 and 2,512 to 2,381 respectively.

McGlaughlin, Scott, 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams take gold at state swimming meet

MARSHALLTOWN– While the West High swimmers were thwarted in their efforts for a third consecutive state championship Saturday, Feb. 13, at the YMCA in Marshalltown, they have four brand new state meet records, and shiny gold medals, to reflect upon with pride.
Mark McGlaughlin, a senior, won the gold in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard freestyle, setting new records in both at 1:46.91 and 43.64 seconds respectively. Will Scott, also a senior, earned gold in the 50-yard freestyle while also setting a new record with his 20.29 seconds effort.

West High third at district meet

Five Trojans advance to state wrestling tournament

BURLINGTON– Five West High Trojan wrestlers advanced out of a Class 3A district meet to compete at the State Individual Tournament Thursday, Feb. 18, through Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Wells Fargo Arena in downtown Des Moines.
Hans Von Rabenau, Nelson Brands, Carter Rohweder, Nate Kelsay and Donovan Doyle qualified at the 3A-2 meet in Burlington on Saturday, Feb. 13. Von Rabenau was the 106-pound runner-up, Brands was the 138-pound District Champion, Rohweder was the 160-pound runner-up while Kelsay was the 170-pound runner-up and Doyle won the 195-pound competition.

Clippers split with Golden Hawks in doubleheader

CCA boys win 62-46, girls fall 56-42 to Mid-Prairie

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity basketball teams split with the Golden Hawks of Mid-Prairie, Wellman, in a boys/girls doubleheader in Tiffin on Monday, Feb. 8.
The Creek Girls fell, 56-42, to open the night of basketball. Erin Navara led CCA with 11 points with 10 points from Abbi Kinnaird. Claire Navara added nine points, all from three-point goals. The Clippers trailed, 9-8, after the first quarter but were tied, 20-20, at the half. The Golden Hawks pulled ahead in the third period and put the game away with a 20-point effort in the fourth quarter.

City takes both ends of varsity boys, girls doubleheader

IOWA CITY– A shockwave rippled through Iowa City as the City High Little Hawks snapped a 15-game losing streak to their crosstown rivals, the West High Trojans, in the second half of a varsity double-header Friday, Feb. 12.
City High took down the Trojans, 63-53, in the teams’ second meeting of the season. West took the first contest in January, 45-31, at West High.

Clear Creek Amana Foundation announces new Hall of Fame inductees

TIFFIN– On Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, during Parents’ Night of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School football game, the Clear Creek Amana Foundation inducted two members into its Hall of Fame. The two community members honored were Robert Sentman and the late Robert VanCleave.
On Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, during a boys and girls varsity basketball doubleheader, the foundation honored two more individuals from the community by inducting them into the Hall of Fame: George H. Berger and Rodney Walls.

CCA Get-Ready-for-College Night to be held Feb. 23

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) will host a Get Ready for College Night on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in the CCA High School (location TBD). A representative from the University of Iowa (four-year public), Mount Mercy University (four-year private), and Kirkwood Community College will address what parents and students need to know about preparing for the senior year and what steps parents and students can take to be ready to start the college application process once the senior year gets going.

NORTH LIBERTY– Registration for the North Liberty Youth Baseball and Softball (NLYBS) 2016 season is open. Children can be signed up for the program at www.eteamz.com/NLYBS. Registration must be completed by March 1.

North Liberty Optimists host pancake breakfast March 5

NORTH LIBERTY– The Optimist Club of North Liberty will host its 43rd annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the North Liberty Community Center gymnasium, 520 W. Cherry St.
Proceeds will benefit more than a dozen North Liberty youth programs, as all Optimist clubs have a mission to be “friends of youth.”
