CCA to ask for PPEL extension in September

Measure will be on school board ballot

OXFORD– The Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district expires in December 2015, and superintendent Tim Kuehl wants to ask voters to extend it. Kuehl spoke with the district’s board of directors during their monthly work session and business meeting Monday, July 29, at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford.

Just keep swimming

A participant conquers the 50-meter swimming stage of the Just Tri Youth Triathlon in North Liberty Aug. 4. The second annual event had 98 registrants between the ages of 6 and 14 years.

CORALVILLE - Chris Lynch, candidate for the Iowa City Community School District School Board, will be campaigning in several area neighborhoods.

School board candidate Barron to hold listening post Aug. 15

NORTH LIBERTY– School board candidate Sara Barron will hold a listening post Thursday, Aug. 15, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the North Liberty Community Center.
Barron has said that her top priorities are to encourage collaboration and cooperation throughout the district, to promote the health and well-being of students and staff, to ensure equity in resources throughout the district, and to boost achievement for low-income students and students of color.
Barron is a strong supporter of the third comprehensive high school.

Meet school board candidate Cook at Aug. 14 listening post

NORTH LIBERTY– Iowa City School Board candidate Karla Cook will be at the North Liberty Community Library on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.
This listening post is an opportunity for residents to meet the candidate and share their visions or concerns for the Iowa City Community School District. The listening post will be held in meeting rooms A and B.

J&A Tap receives outdoor permit

NORTH LIBERTY– It’s been almost five years since John and Amanda Hruby bought a long-established bar in North Liberty and began working to make it better.
Since then, J&A Tap’s food, beverage selection, live music and volleyball leagues have drawn so many patrons the couple has had to expand their offerings.
On July 23, the North Liberty City Council approved conditional use permit and site plan for J&A Tap, so the crowds of people who come to play volleyball will be able to both serve and be served outdoors.
