DNR addresses Macbride forest management plan

SOLON– When Anthony Sells built the first sawmill with an upright saw in Big Grove Township in 1839, there were a lot of nearby trees. Things changed as the land was cleared for development, to the extent that when the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently marked a number of mature trees in the state park, people noticed and wondered what was going on.

Last chance to register for youth baseball and softball programs

SOLON– Registration for summer baseball and softball for ages 9-13 will continue through the middle of next week. Games will be played in Solon, North Liberty and Coralville in conjunction with the North Liberty Youth Baseball and Softball league. All Solon kids will be kept together on “Solon” teams. This league is typically a 12-15 game season plus tournament at the end of the season. Season typically runs end of April through end of June. Shueyville UMC men’s group pancake supper March 28

 SHUEYVILLE– United Methodist Men’s group from Shueyville will sponsor a pancake supper on Friday, March 28, from 5 until 7 p.m. The public is invited to join them for the annual Shueyville United Methodist Men’s Pancake Supper to benefit mission activities at home and around the world. Come and enjoy good food and fellowship with friends. 
All-you-can-eat supper includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, hash browns and beverage. The cost for adults is $6, for children ages 3 to 12 $3, under 3 free.

Teams sought for middle school PTO kickball tournament April 5

SOLON– A Kickin’ For Kids Kickball Tournament, sponsored by Solon Middle School PTO, will be held Saturday, April 5, at Lakeview playground and T-Ball Fields.
The cost is $175 per team, and all teams will have nine to 14 players. Option 1: half of the team must be SMS students and all teams must have at least two adults. Option 2: Competitive play (for older kids and businesses wanting to participate).

Solon salon to host March 30 book signing for NL author

SOLON– Solon resident Sue Randall will be hosting an open house at the Hair Styling Chalet, 401 W. Main St., Solon on Sunday, March 30, from 2 until 5 p.m. People can drop in and meet North Liberty author S.C. Sherman and learn more about his books.
