County imposes weight and speed limits on Mehaffey Bridge

What’s shaking?

JOHNSON COUNTY– Cars should travel a little slower across Mehaffey Bridge now, and big trucks will have to detour around it until a new bridge is complete.
The Johnson County Secondary Roads department placed a weight embargo on the bridge and reduced the speed effective March 11, due to too much movement as cars were driving over the bridge that is currently under construction.

SHS drama department presents “Into the Woods” April 4-6

SOLON– Who knows what you will discover when you go “Into the Woods?” Stephen Sondheim’s musical comedy, to be presented by the Solon High School drama department, is a fractured fairy tale that combines the well-known characters of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood with the story of the Baker and his Wife who desperately want a child. Unfortunately, the Baker and his Wife have been cursed with childlessness by a wicked witch and must perform various missions involving the characters in the other fairy tales to break the spell.

5K the hard way

SOLON– Close to 70 hardy souls dragged themselves through culverts, over bales of hay and across ice-cold streams as the Solon Sluggers 13U baseball team hosted the second Solon Survivor Extreme 5K Saturday morning, March 8, southwest of Solon.
The off-road race raised funds for the club as well as the Solon Food Pantry.

Early season indoor meets for girls

MOUNT VERNON– Solon’s Lady Spartans head for the great outdoors in the coming week as track moves from indoors into a chilly start for the outdoor season.
Cornell College in Mount Vernon hosted the WaMaC East division meet March 22, with the WaMaC West participants coming in on their heels in the afternoon for theirs. No scores were kept, with spring break reducing team lineups and practice availability. The meet format, though, provided competition for teams that have faced extended winter weather as the season gets underway.
