Back to school?

SOLON– Credit classes in the summer at Solon High School are on the table for a school board vote. Classes will start no earlier than June 1 and go no later than Aug. 15.
“We don’t know if students will sign up,” Solon High School Principal Nathan Wear flatly told the board last week. He said they’d need only 12 students to make it worthwhile.
The classes will have 16 days and 126 hours of instruction from teachers.
Wear said several proposals had already been submitted by Solon teachers, including one for computer programming. He said that the school might host up to four classes this summer, if the new courses were approved by the board.
The high school might not offer the same courses during the regular school year and a computer programming class would be the first in Solon.
Solon Superintendent Sam Miller said that summer school would keep class sizes lower for the rest of the year; ensure that all students can get into classes they want; and allow the school to offer more courses.
The 2012 summer school proposal does not include food or transport.
The board will vote on the summer classes on May 14. Wear pitched the idea during a special school board meeting on April 25.
