Creek Boys 3rd at WaMaC XC

CCA boys post highest conference meet finish in school history

VINTON– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys cross country squad earned some bragging rights Thursday, Oct. 12, as they posted a third-place finish in the WaMaC Conference Championships meet at Vinton-Shellsburg High School. Mount Vernon-Lisbon won the varsity boys title with 56 points followed by Marion (64) and the Clippers in third close behind with 67.
“You’ll see that the CCAXC boys finished third in one of the tightest races we’ve seen!” CCA Coach Ben Robison proudly noted. “This was our highest WaMaC finish since joining the conference.”
Brandon Barker, a freshman, led the varsity squad with a fifth-place finish in 16:54. Barker’s finish tied the highest finish (in a WaMaC meet) by a Clipper boy in program history, Robison added. Jack Murray set the bar in 2013, he said.
The coach also said the WaMaC was, “without a doubt, our most solid race performance of the season. Anytime you can have four of your guys bring home all-conference honors, you’re bound to have a good night.”
In addition to Barker, Nick O’Connor and Jack Sexton, both sophomores, also posted top-10 finishes with O’Connor ninth and Sexton 10th.
The junior varsity (JV) boys were fourth in team points with 125 behind champion Mount Vernon-Lisbon (44), runner-up Marion (85) and rival Williamsburg (106). Shiloh Robbins, a sophomore, led CCA with a seventh-place finish in 18:34. Daniel Henkle, also a sophomore, was ninth.
Barker earned First Team All-Conference honors while O’Connor, Sexton and Cole Liebe were Second Team picks.
The varsity Clippers head for Pella Thursday, Oct. 19, for a Class 3A state qualifying meet.
