Elizabeth “Betty” Weaver Buckley, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
A gathering time for family and friends was held Jan. 9, at Keystone Place located in Cedar Rapids to remember and share Betty’s life. Her wishes of cremation were honored.
Mrs. Buckley was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (O’Connor) Weaver. On June 21, 1942, she married Daniel Joseph Buckley Jr. in Malden, Mass. The couple had lived in Swansea, Mass., Hudson, Fla., and in 2002 moved to North Liberty to be closer to family. Daniel died Dec. 25, 2007, and Betty moved to Cedar Rapids afterward.
Betty cared for her family for many years, and after they were moved from home she worked in the local school district in Swansea, Mass. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Her family includes her sons, Daniel J. Buckley III of Colfax, Calif.; Michael F. (Dayle) Buckley of Fall River, Mass.; and Stephen W. (Debra) Buckley of South Dartmouth, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Julie Buckley of Solon; and 10 grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; son, Patrick W. Buckley; three brothers, Frank, Wally and Carl Weaver; and her sister, Helen Toomy.
