IOWA CITY– The Johnson County 4-H and FFA Fair will host its second Celebrity Calf show Wednesday, July 27, at 7 p.m. in the North Show Barn at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. The event is sponsored by the Johnson County Youth Council. The show was a huge success last year.
The event will feature local celebrities showing cattle with a twist. Each celebrity will be paired with a 4-H club. The celebrity and the club will collaborate to come up with a theme for their team. Each team will dress accordingly with clubs cheering on their team. Audience members can also cheer on their favorites.
The show will feature Johnson County Deputy Sherriff Chris Downes, former Hawkeye basketball player Adam Haluska, former Iowa football player James Vandenberg, U.S. Congressional candidate Christopher Peters, University of Northern Iowa Panther Marching Band Drum Major Dan Benson, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and more.
Awards will be given for best showman, best use of theme/costume, best club participation and the people’s choice award. The people’s choice award will be awarded by passing the hat for each group. The audience can vote for their favorites by tossing some money in a bucket. Funds raised from the event go to support the VA Hospital of Iowa City and the Johnson County 4-H Youth programs.
The Johnson County Youth Council, made up of senior 4-Hers from around the county, will also be selling old fashioned lemonade shakeups. Come out and support this fun event.
