Leona Marie Sidmore, 78, of Coralville, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Funeral services were June 14 at Prince of Peach Lutheran Church in Coralville. Graveside services were at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery near Coulter, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa City Animal Shelter.
Leona was born April 12, 1935, in Chino, Calif., the daughter of Clarance and Martha (Pedersen) Larsen. Leona graduated from Franklin Community High School on May 19, 1953. She married Clark Sidmore on Nov. 5, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Coulter.
Leona worked for Sears & Roebuck for 30 years before retiring in 1998. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Christian Women’s organization, and volunteered for the Free Lunches in Iowa City.
Leona is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Michael) Mitchell of Swisher; two brothers, Ralph (Marge) Larsen of Freemont, Neb., and Donald (Dilene) Larsen of Emmetsburg; one sister, Avon (Dennis) Lemke of Dows; one grandson, Dane (Brianna) Guyer of North Liberty; two step-grandchildren, Len Mitchell of Cedar Rapids and Laura (Travis) Sheely of Amana; a step great-grandson, Dylan Sheely; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Marie on the way.
