Library popularity continues
The excitement of the summer programming continues to draw lots of patrons to the library. Jen Leveck, Youth Services Librarian, commented on the Mad Science Mix with the Grout Museum. “He put on a great show that included lots of fire, mini explosions and a huge snake named Bully.” The turnout was fantastic and we had lots of positive comments after the show. Almost everyone stuck around to say hi to Bully and feel his snaky skin.
Teens had a great time with their activity this past week, making bags out of old T-shirts. And, Afternoon Adventurers tackled the challenge of making bean bag globes.
Donations of books, DVDs and CDs to Friends of the Solon Library are accepted on a year-round basis at the circulation desk for the book sale fundraisers held throughout the year. A smaller selection of gift-quality books is offered at the holiday sale, as well as other gift items, poinsettias and jar mixes. Larger book sales are held in February as well as the annual Memorial Day weekend event. Gift-type items and holiday décor are also accepted at the circulation desk for resale by the Friends organization.
With the changeover in the collections from VCR and cassette to DVD and CD, the library is in need of an expensive piece of equipment to clean and repair CD and DVD discs. Currently, the Friends are directing the proceeds of their fundraising to this purchase.
Donations of movies on VHS and music or books on cassette are no longer accepted as there is no demand for those items. Readers Digest condensed books, encyclopedia sets and text books over five years old are also not accepted.
