Mary Lehman Williams Oldfather, 94, of Manchester, died Oct. 4, 2013. She was born Dec. 27, 1918, to James Williams and Amelia Lehman. She was the eldest of three children with her brother, Robert C. Williams, and sister, Margaret Williams Loghey. After graduating from Fairbank High School, Mary went on to Upper Iowa University, graduating with a teaching degree in music. She taught her entire life.
On Oct. 17, 1945, she married Wallace K. Oldfather, who had just returned from the military service during World War II. They moved to Volga, where Mary started raising a family and taught English. In 1961, they moved to Manchester, where she taught geometry and calculus until her retirement from West Delaware High School.
Mary continued active community service in Manchester until her death.
She will be missed by her sister, Margaret Loghey of Iowa City; her daughter, Janet Meyer of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, including Jennifer (Patrick) Eggleston of Solon; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 8 at Manchester United Methodist Church, by Pastors Michael Druhl and Mary Green. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Memorials may be made to the Oldfather Math Scholarship at West Delaware High School, Manchester, in memory of Mary.
