Nominees sought for Veterans Trail dedication
JOHNSON COUNTY– Each year on Memorial Day, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake and Johnson County Veterans organizations honor local military veterans who have served their country. The public is invited to nominate individuals who meet the following criteria in order that they may be recognized for outstanding service in the U.S. Armed Services. This year’s dedication will be held on Monday, May 25, 2009.
Criteria for nominating a veteran are:
• Nominee must be a resident of Johnson County, lived a large portion of their life in Johnson County, or is a member of a Johnson County Veterans Organization.
• Must have been a member of the armed services and honorably discharged.
• Nominees with status of Purple Heart, POW or higher award will be given priority.
• Honorees should be living.
The Veterans Trail located at Coralville Lake is a barrier free trail accessible to everyone. Various features along the trail are named for the 124 local veterans who have been honored on the trail since its dedication in 1989.
Nomination forms can be obtained by calling Jeffrey Peck at the Coralville Lake office, (319) 338-3543 ext. 6310 or ext. 6300. Nomination forms must be received no later than March 1, 2009 in order for consideration.
