Reconfigured CCA board sets sail

OXFORD– While the majority of voters in the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district did not call for change in the Sept. 10 school board election, the board of directors did undergo a roster change, and a change in leadership.
The board held its post-election organizational meeting Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford following a work session and regular monthly meeting. The meeting was the swan song for board member Aimee Pitlick, whose term expired with adjournment of the meeting. Pitlick, who was elected to the board in 2009, decided not to run for re-election to her at-large seat after filing the necessary paperwork, citing personal reasons. Eileen Schmidt, also elected in 2009, now occupies that seat, having been re-elected and shifting from a district race to the at-large position.
Kevin Kinney, who joined the board in 2007 and resigned in 2001, staged a successful write-in campaign for the District 2 seat, which was open on the ballot. Kinney was sworn in and took his seat for the organizational meeting.
The board is under new leadership as Schmidt relinquished her role as board president, nominating vice-president Rick Hergert for the spot. Board member Jim Seelman nominated Steve Swenka, who won re-election in District 3. On a ballot vote, Swenka won 4-3. Seelman also nominated Bob Broghammer for vice-president, and with no other contenders, was approved on a voice-vote of all ayes.
The board agreed to keep the regular monthly business meeting on the third Wednesday of the month with a 7 p.m. start time. The meetings will continue to be held at CCE, unless otherwise specified, such as when the board is touring other buildings in the district. Based on a suggestion by Seelman that the board will need additional meetings at least through the Feb. 4 bond election, it was decided a work session will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, also at CCE at 7 p.m.
By law, the board’s meeting dates, times, locations and agendas are posted on the district’s website no less than 24 hours prior to the meeting. Work sessions and business meetings are open to the public and public comments are solicited during the business meetings.
