Ruby F. Greazel, 86, formerly of Iowa City, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Solon Nursing Care Center.
Memorial Mass was held Sept. 8 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. The Rev. Michael Phillips officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Solon Nursing Care Center.
Ruby was born Nov. 26, 1925, at home in Washington Township near Frytown, the daughter of William and Clara (Bender) Snyder.
Ruby married Leo Greazel March 2, 1946, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
As a young girl, Ruby worked as a florist at Curtis Greenhouse south of Iowa City on Riverside Drive.
She then worked as a nursing assistant at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and later at the Iowa City Veterans Medical Center. After retiring from the VA, she provided childcare out of her home.
Ruby was a long time member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and enjoyed quilting, antiquing, gardening and camping– especially at Sandy Beach Campground.
Survivors include her children, Norma Finley (Daryle) of Iowa City, William Greazel (Janet) of North Liberty, Cecelia Greazel of Solon and Leo Greazel of the Quad Cities; grandchildren, Matt, Mark, Ben, Nick, Andy and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Ava, Addison, Olivia, Isabella, Sophia, Clay and Juliette; brothers and sisters, Delbert Snyder of South Carolina, Maggie Boudreau of Brownsville, Texas, Nellie Vitosh of Davenport and John Snyder of Kalona and many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo a grandson Jeffrey Greazel, brothers and sisters, Darlene Peer, Bill Snyder, Arvilla Zook, Andrew Snyder, Verton Snyder, Lucille Snyder, Paul Snyder and Cleo Snyder.
