SOLON– November is National Diabetes Month, a time for awareness in our community. The Solon Centennial Lions Club is promoting health literacy through a $400 donation to the Solon Community School District. These funds will be used to purchase books about diabetes for each of the four Solon school libraries. Thousands of children and young adults are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes every year; learning about diabetes at any age is important for awareness and a possible early diagnosis. The Lions Clubs International motto is “We Serve.” Diabetes awareness and youth outreach are an integral part of Lions Clubs across the globe. The LIONS acronym also stands for “Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nations’ Safety.” The Solon Centennial Lions Club was established in 2017 and has 34 community members, a part of the 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries around the world. Solon Lions are grateful to K-12 District Teacher Librarian Sara Pfughaupt of the Solon Community School District, and her partnership with Youth Services Librarian Cassi Elton of the Solon Public Library. Through their expertise, they will help choose age appropriate books about diabetes for Solon students and their families. More information about diabetes can be found on line at: Diabetes.org
