Solon man charged with felony theft after credit card purchases

NORTH LIBERTY– A Solon man has been accused of purchasing over $20,000 of personal items on company credit cards over an 18-month period.
According to court documents, Virgil Dewayne Olney, 43, was charged with unauthorized use of a credit card (over $10,000) and theft in the first degree, both Class C felonies.
Court documents alleged between February 2016 and August of 2017, Olney used two credit cards issued to him by a North Liberty business for the purchase of business-related items, which he used to purchase more than $20,000 worth of personal items. The business never received any of the personal use items purchased by Olney, documents stated.
An arrest warrant was issued Oct. 5 and served Oct. 6. Olney was released from the Johnson County jail after posting a $10,000 bond.
