St. John to take over Ely congregate dining
ELY– St. John Lutheran Church has announced it will take over the senior congregate dining and meal delivery service when Horizons Meals on Wheels ends service in April.
Situated in the heart of Ely, St. John has a long record of being committed to serving the community and didn’t hesitate to step forward when Horizons announced last week that its service to Ely and other sites would be discontinued due to budget shortfalls.
“It will be a big project to pull together in a short time,” said the Rev. Erika Uthe. “But there is no other option. Our people need to eat.”
St. John is looking to the wider Ely community for assistance and support.
“Fulfilling this responsibility will take everyone working together and I know that Ely can rally together to make it happen,” said Uthe.
With Ely’s recent and predicted future growth, the community has put together a strategic plan to attempt to meet anticipated needs and St. John has stepped up to do what it can to continue to build community. St. John has a groundbreaking planned for May 4 and will begin construction in a multi-purpose space that is intended to serve the needs of the growing community, including hosting preschool and senior programs.
