Two killed, three injured in hit-and-run crash near Tiffin
TIFIFN– Two North Liberty residents were killed in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Jasper Avenue and Highway 6 in Tiffin Aug. 10.
According to the Iowa State Patrol,
Troy Liddell, 48, and his sister-in-law Kelly Liddell, 50, of North Liberty, were killed when a driver ran a stop sign on Jasper Avenue and struck the 2008 Nissan Xterra driven by Troy Liddell.
The Liddell vehicle was eastbound on Highway 6 at approximately 7:22 p.m, when a 1995 Chevrolet K2500 pickup southbound on Jasper Avenue failed to stop for a stop sign and struck the Liddell Xterra on its left side. The driver of the K2500 fled the scene.
Troy Liddell and Kelly Liddell were pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers Todd Liddell, 50 (husband of Kelly), and Marty Liddell, 48, (wife of Troy) both sustained injuries.
A passenger in the pickup, Juan Castillo Moreno, 31, of Iowa City, was also injured.
All were transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by Johnson County Ambulance.
Authorities are seeking Carlos Benlanga-Cardona, 34, believed to be living in the Iowa City/Coralville area, identified as being in the truck at the time of the collision and who had fled the scene.
As of the publication of this newspaper, officials were seeking the public’s assistance in locating Cardona.
