Solon’s Summer Reading Program, “One World, Many Stories,” will begin with the kick-off party from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, officially launching the 2011 Summer Reading Program. Everything you need including reading logs, T-shirt sheets and the calendar of events will be available. Refreshments will be provided by Hills Bank of Mt. Vernon.
A special kick-off party just for kids fifth grade and older will be held after hours at the library on Saturday, June 4, from 6:30-8 p.m. Pizza will be served during the showing of the movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” Reading logs, T-shirt sheets and calendars of events will be available at this special party, as well.
The Summer Reading Program is open to ages birth through high school for participation in the reading activity and/or the T-shirt challenge. The summer reading program strives to develop a positive attitude about reading and enables children to strengthen their literacy skills. During the 2010 Summer Reading Program, there were a total of 375,860 minutes read by participants in the program.
Summer Reading Program will run from June 2 through July 23.
