SOLON– The City of Solon Water Utility will be flushing fire hydrants beginning Monday, Nov. 7, and should take one week to complete.
This hydrant flushing will take place on weekdays between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. For any questions, please contact the Solon Public Works Department directly at 319-624-5037 or 624-3755, or visit the City of Solon website at www.solon-iowa.com .
Some customers will experience rusty or black water caused by naturally occurring iron and manganese minerals. This does not represent a health hazard. However, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing) as staining may occur. If you experience discolored water run the cold water in all your faucets for approximately 5-10 minutes.
Please make arrangements to minimize your water use during this time period to avoid drawing iron sediment into your water service. It is very important that all customers check their water before washing clothes to avoid rust discoloration.
The City of Solon regrets any temporary inconvenience which may be experienced, however, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for both firefighting and domestic consumption. The city thanks residents in advance for their cooperation.
